What Is Arsine Gas?

Arsine is a colorless, non-irritating, highly toxic gas with a mild garlic odor. It is part of electronic gases and is one of the simplest arsenic compounds. Its chemical formula is AsH3.

It is flammable and explosive and can get ignited by heat, flames, or sparks. Arsine is also soluble in water and has a boiling point of -62.5ºC. 

Generally, it ships in cylinders as a compressed liquefied gas.

How is arsine gas made?

Arsine is typically formed when arsenic comes in contact with an acid or when water combines with a metallic arsenide.
Arsine may be produced from natural processes involving fungi and bacteria or from industrial processes involving soldering, welding, galvanizing, refining, and etching. Arsine can also be produced when lead storage batteries overcharge.
