Chief Scientist Bob Syvret Awarded for Work in Fluorine Chemistry

EFC Gases & Advanced Materials > News > Chief Scientist Bob Syvret Awarded for Work in Fluorine Chemistry

We are proud to announce our Chief Scientist has been named the 2020 recipient of the American Chemical Society National Award for Creative work in Fluorine Chemistry. Bob is just the 2nd industrial chemist to receive this honor since the awards annual inception in 1972.

Bob led the technical development Selectfluor® fluorination agent in the mid-90s.  This effort enabled the commercial production of important 6-position cortical steroids, the most widely used member being fluticasone propionate, which is the active ingredient in the popular intranasal anti-inflammatory drugs Flonase, Advair and others

Bob’s work in electronics contributed to the development of fluorination process chemistry for production of high purity electronics materials; including two high-volume and very important fluorinated materials NF3 and C4F6.

Bob’s work in the fluorochemical (refrigerants) industry led to technical developments enabling critical catalyst activation and the efficient production of the new low global warming potential (low-GWP) refrigerants 1234yf and 1233zd.

Bob will receive the award in March 2020.  We look forward to further advancement with Bob at EFC with the development of a state of the art R&D lab, set to be fully operational by the end of 2019.
